The Application

Can out-of-state applicants (non-Georgia residents) apply for in-state tuition status?

Yes, section 7.3.4.1 of the University System of Georgia policy manual allows for certain qualifying students to receive a waiver of their out-of-state tuition differential and pay in-state rates. The full details are provided in this online Board of Regents Policy Manual. Waiver request forms can be found on the UGA Office of the Registrar website. The two most common requests are for Military and for Economic Advantage.

The Economic Advantage waiver can be requested if you move to the state of Georgia for full-time employment prior to your first day of classes in the IOMP. This can include either a change in jobs or a job transfer that requires relocation for you or your spouse. Dependent students can also request this waiver if their parents move to the state of Georgia for employment purposes. More details are available on the two websites listed in the previous paragraph.

Is the GRE required for the application?

Yes. Scores for Verbal, Quant, and Analytical are required. The Psychology Subject test is NOT required. If you have more than 5 consecutive years of full-time, professional work experience AND either a previously earned graduate degree from an accredited university or a cumulative undergraduate GPA above a 'B' average, you may request a waiver of the GRE requirement. To request this waiver, email frostb@uga.edu with your resume, unofficial transcript(s), and a brief explanation for your request.

Will you accept GRE scores received after the application deadline?

Yes, we will accept GRE scores received after the application deadline. The latest that UGA will accept them is July 1st. However, for full consideration of your application for the upcoming Fall cohort, we must receive your scores no later than May 15th. If received after May 15th, you may be placed on a wait list for the upcoming Fall cohort. We typically have a few wait-listed students who are ultimately accepted into the program each year.

The online application asks for three contacts for my letters of recommendation, but the IOMP website says I am only required to submit one letter of recommendation. How do I handle this?

You are only required to provide one letter of recommendation as part of your application to the I-O Professional Master’s Program, but you are welcome to provide additional names for up to three letters of recommendation. For the online application, just enter a non-active email address such as “NA@na.org” or "XX@xx.com”  into the fields that ask for additional names.

Do I need to request official transcripts as part of my application?

Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Unofficial transcripts not submitted as part of the online application can be emailed to gradadm@uga.edu. Official transcripts are not required during the review process and will only be required for applicants who are offered admission. Do not mail official transcripts until offered admission. More details can be found here: http://grad.uga.edu/index.php/prospective-students/domestic-application-information/requirements/transcripts-and-academic-records/

Do early applications receive priority?

No. All applications received before the deadline each spring are given full consideration. Please note that we will make some early acceptances of highly qualified applicants prior to the application deadline. However, we will leave plenty of spots available in the cohort to ensure all applications submitted by the deadline are given full consideration.

What is the application process for international students?

The UGA Graduate School deadline for international students is April 15th. Full details are available here: http://grad.uga.edu/index.php/prospective-students/international-application-information/

The Graduate School also requires international applicants, immigrants to the U.S., and permanent residents of the U.S. whose native language is not English and who have not received a bachelor’s degree from a university in which all instruction is in English to submit a valid TOEFL (or equivalent) score. Only official TOEFL (or equivalent) scores less than two years old will be accepted. For further information, please refer to the Graduate School English Language Proficiency Requirements or to www.toefl.org to register for the test.
