Franklin Alumna Dominique Holloman Returns to Campus

Franklin alumna Dominique Holloman (BS ’01, AB ’01, MED ’04, JD ’04) returned to UGA to speak to students of PSYC 3030: Preparing for a Career in Psychology. Holloman began her education at UGA at the age of 17 and graduated with her four degrees by 2004.

Holloman shared invaluable advice with students as they begin to navigate their careers in psychology-related fields. Having a career experience across multiple industries, she encouraged students to embrace all their interests personally and professionally.

“Outside interests that you have are all parts of who you are and make up who you are and influence the decisions that you make every day,” said Holloman. “I get to be myself in all facets of my life and that is very important to me.”

In addition to her diverse studies, Holloman served as tour guide at the UGA Visitors Center and as a recruiting host for UGA Athletics. Holloman emphasized the importance of getting involved in a wide variety of UGA opportunities because these experiences are foundational to students' professional lives as they never know what they will learn or who they may meet.

Holloman stressed to students the importance of creating meaningful connections. She reminded them to be givers in their professional relationships and not to just seek out what others can possibly offer. In sharing advice about how to manage networking at events, she advised students to “find the one person in the room you feel like you can’t leave without talking to,” said Holloman. “If you’ve done that, that’s success.”

To conclude, Holloman gave students counsel on navigating post-graduation. “The point of your education is to give you the greatest flexibility that you can have in creating the life that you want for yourself,” said Holloman. “Your degree is not here to lock you into an identity. It is a tool to empower you to craft what you want for yourself.”
