Research Participant (RP) Pool Information

Research Participation Overview

The Psychology Department regards your exposure to psychological research as an educational experience. This is comparable to a laboratory section of introductory courses in other sciences, and it serves to acquaint students with a broad cross-section of contemporary psychological research. The participation of students is appreciated and essential to the research of the Psychology Department. Students' research contributions become a lasting part of the body of scientific psychological knowledge.

Research Participation Requirements
  • Fall 2021 requirement is 6.5 research credits
    • Only 3 out of the 6.5 research credit hours can be earned through online surveys (updated as of 11/2021)
  • Opportunities to earn credit (all research opportunities will be posted on Sona)
    • Participate in research studies (0.5 credit for every 30 mins of study participation)
    • Research alternative options (all posted on Sona)
      • Attend specified in-person or virtual psychology talks (1 hour talk = 1 credit)
      • Conducting reviews of pre-determined empirical articles (1 review = 1 credit)
      • Participate in online pseudo-studies - these are old research studies that are no longer active in which participant data will not be analyzed (1 pseudo-study = 1 credit)
  • Failure to fulfill the necessary hours of credit will result in a drop of one letter grade for the course with the requirement.
  • Reminder, students will not register themselves on Sona this semester. The RP Pool Coordinator will be automatically adding all students to the system on August 24th, 2021. Please refer to the full RP Guidelines for additional details.
